DieHard Checklist Removing Your Old Battery

  • Protect Yourself

    Don safety glasses and latex gloves to prevent your eyes and bare skin from harmful battery acid.

  • Remove Your Battery

    Use a wrench to loosen the negative battery clamp and remove it from the battery post. Detach the clamp with a terminal puller if it will not disconnect easily. Lift your DieHard Battery up and out of the battery tray.

  • Clean Thoroughly

    Apply baking soda and water mixture to the tray and cables and scrub with a wire brush to remove build up. Dry the battery tray and connections with a clean rag.

Removing Your Old Battery

The time comes in every vehicle owner's life to say goodbye to the battery. Your DieHard battery has powered you through tough snowstorms and summer's grueling heat, day in and day out for the last five years. Your DieHard battery has served you well and with these simple steps you can remove the old to make room for some new, dependable, DieHard power.

Step1

Loosen the negative clamp with a wrench and detach the negative terminal. If you are having trouble disconnecting it, use a terminal puller to remove it without damaging the battery.

Step2

Always remove the negative cable first to avoid short circuiting the positive terminal. Once removed, disconnect the positive terminal using the same method and release the battery hold-down clamp with a wrench.

Step3

Lift the DieHard battery up and out of the battery tray. Batteries are heavy so have a space cleared to set it down quickly once it is removed from the vehicle.

Step4

Mix baking soda and water and apply to the bottom of the battery tray. Scrub with a wire brush to remove all visible corrosion and buildup.

Step5

Apply the baking soda mixture to the battery cable connectors and continue brushing to remove corrosive deposits.
